His friend and brother-in-law, Orville J. Brosseau, still thinks Fred was poisoned. Fred was one of three candidates for Sheriff of Crane County. One of the others died about the same time of "food poisoning." Fred's brother-in-law was convinced that the winning candidate also poisoned Fred. Orville supposedly told Dr. Capetti about this and Capetti supposedly said, "You may be on to something." Orvilene Reel tells me [DNE] that Fred didn't go to the hospital, but died at home, and that Dr. Capetti sometimes stayed all night looking after him. Of course, this story doesn't square with what appears on the death certificate, which is very clear that Fred died of a hemorrhagic stroke.3,6

It subsequently had a wing added onto the right hand side as you look at the picture I [David Neal Ewing] took, but the house was in much better shape when Fred and Stella lived there. Orvilene thinks Fred bought this house. She always thought of him as a wealthy man.12

Stella was married four times, divorced twice and widowed twice, and never had children of her own. When Stella married Fred, she had already had Joan for over a year. Joan was five years old when Fred died, so she remembers him only vaguely.
