1. Nancy Elizabeth Ewing {39} was born 16 Sep 1827 in Wilson County, Tennessee.
She was the daughter of James Ewing {31} and Nancy Smith {32}. Nancy died 30 Sep 1875 in
Hunt County, Texas based on the record referred to in the following paragraph. She married
William E Davis, Sr {672} 3 Sep 1850 in Wilson County, Tennessee. William, Sr. was born
about 1820, according to a census record. He had died before 28 December 1852 in Wilson
County, Tennessee when his estate was sold.

With William’s death at an early age in 1852, it would appear that he was buried in the James
Ewing family graveyard. “Nancy (Ewing) Davis was buried in Hunt Co., Texas not fare from
Lane.” (p.254) [Lois Anne Smith’s journal]
That appears to identify the Dulaney Cemetery, the
cemetery where two of her brothers and other relatives are buried.
A copy of the marriage bond indicates that it was issued on the 3rd of September 1850. A note on the marriage bond indicates they were married according to law and signed by W. Hays, M.G. but no date for marriage was indicated.
On the 1850 Census for Wilson County, Tennessee for Civil District 14, William and Nancy Davis are listed as living in the home of James Ewing, her father. William’s age was given as 30 years and being born in Tennessee. Nancy and her son, William, age 9 years, were listed in the home of her father on the 1860 Census.
Based on the items sold from the estate of William E. Davis it appears that he was involved with farming. In reviewing deeds for Wilson County, it was learned that a portion of the east boundary of the land of James Ewing was a common boundary line with the land owned by Nancy Davis. I have not been able to find where the land was purchased. It is possible that James Ewing gave the land to them after they were married.
The records of James William Ewing, Jr. shows two children with Henrietta being listed after William. Based on two children being born to William and Nancy, there is no way to determine if Henrietta was the first or second child. However, since she is not listed as living with her mother on the 1860 census, it would appear that she died at a very young age and she would be the second child based on the marriage date of her parents.
